Improved Demand On ’Change

AUCKLAND, This Day,

f Special to “Northern Advocate ”l

Improved demand for a number of leading Australian issues contrasted with weakness in local industrials on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning. Not a single sale was made at the first call.

Broken Hill Proprietary were marked up to buyers '£3 and sellers £3/0/6; and Dunlop Perdriaus, Electrolytic Zincs and Woolworths Sydney all had better buying offers than Sydney. Among New Zealand issues, on the other hand, Dominion Breweries sold at £l/8/9, the lowest price for years, and selling offers of 16/- for Auckland Gas and 3/10 for traders finance contributing also showed weakness. In neither case was there any response from buyers. In the banking sections New Zealand’s had a closed market between £l/17/6 and £l/17/9, while D. Mortgage shares had better buyers 'at £l/6/3 and sellers 6d. higher. Recent easing in Government stocks was reflected in an offer to sell 4% 1952-55 stock at £9B/17/6, which failed to bring in a buyer. Sales completed at the noon call today were: Bank of New Zealand, £1 17/7; D. Mortgage, £l/6/6; Broken Hill Pty., £3/0/6; Dunlop, £l/1/9; G. J. Coles, £4/4/6; Stock, 15/6/52-55, 4 per cent., £9B/15/-.
