Federal National Health Plan

Details of the Federal Government’s new national health plan, -which is proposed to replace the abandoned national insurance scheme, were explained to a meeting of representatives of the B.M.A. and friendly societies by the Federal Treasurer, Mr R. C. Casey. The principal provisions are:— Payments of 9d weekly by employers and employees for all employed
under industrial awards up to a speci-
fied wage
Sickness benefits to be on the family basis of 15/- a week for a man, 10/for a wife, and 5/- for each child, with a limit of £2. The Government will subsidise the scheme with £1,000,000 annually. The friendly societies and the B.M.A. will meet separately to examine the scheme.
