i Special to “Northern Advocate"! AUCKLAND, This Day.
Retired since 1920, after 32 years’ service as a cavalry officer in the Indian Army, Colonel A. E. Stothord, of England, declared this morning that ho would not in these days choose ;he army ns a profession.
“Under the old conditions it was different,” he declared this morning as he lay in his bed in a cabin of the Niagara, en route for Canada on a tour. “I would not be a professional soldier—not in the scientific warfare of today. Anyhow, my branch of the service has been replaced. They don’t want cavalry now. I hate tanks, and i hate aeroplanes!”
