Decima Norman Equals World’s Time For 100 Yards

Flashing over the distance in 11
seconds, and outstripping her strong-
est challenger—Doreen Lumley—by
nearly ,a yard, the Australian girl champion, Decima Norman, on Saturday equalled world record time in the women’s 100 yards inyitation handicap, the big event of the Auckland v. Waikato athletic relay meeting.
Miss Norman turned the tables on Miss Lumley, of Auckland, who defeated her at Carlaw Park last Saturday week in the same time, 11 secs. There was not enough wind to • affect the time, and.it was announced that, applicaio.n would be made for its recognition as a record made on tho Morrinsville track.
The field got away to a perfect start. The scratch paii* caught jhe rest at 50 yards, Miss Lumley leading by inches. Miss Norman finished in great style, drawing away ,at every stride.
Third place was filled by Joan Hart, 13-year-old, Morrinsville primaryschool girl, from four yards.
Tremendous applause followed the announcement that the time equalled the world’s record.
Among those present was Mrs J. N. Keeps, of Hamilton, who, as Miss Ida Campbell, equalled the New Zealand record two years ago, before her retirement. *
