She has been disappointing, but hopes are entertained that she will make amends for past failures during her present preparation. LYSIS UNDER OFFER. Lvsis has been cased up in her work ! - ■ i .and is qt present under offer. The filly j is speedy, but has never been too free in her action since the tracks have become hard. Easier going would assist her materially.

IMPROVED NOVICES. Nordic Song and Miss Valerie, two members of E. Pope’s Takanini team, are making satisfactory progress, and these novices are bearing an improved appearance. Neither has any immediate engagements, but both will bo in excellent order when required. PENZANCE FINISHED. The recovery of Penzance from the injury she received at Te Aroha has been slow, and an announcement has been, made that the last has been seen of the Raceful filly on the racecourse. Penzance was speedy but unlucky, as she met with frequent mishaps.

MILANION IN WORK. Milanion is again acquiring racing condition, and is being allotted serviceable work at Takanini to fit him for kite autumn engagements. Milanion, who displayed distinct promise last autumn when he won a two-year-old event at Avondale, failed to reproduce his best form in the spring, and an injury subsequently kept him out of action for some time. Milanion may soon make amends. IMPROVED JUMPER.

No jumper in the south has improved more than El Caballo, and the Balboa gelding will strip in forward order for the Birchwood Hunt meeting next week. Ho has done everything expected of him in his schooling tasks, and this season promises to add interest to the important jumping tasks.
