Dorothy Steele set the ball rolling with bridge on Tuesday evening, when all the guests arrived with “hankies” for the guest of honour. To receive her guests Dorothy chose a smart frock of faille silk patterned with tiny blue and white daisies while rust taffeta was worn by Muriel. Some of

Mrs J. A. S. Mac Kay was another hostess this week, when she entertained some of her friends with mah Jongg on Thursday evening. Bowls of asters of every hue decorated the drawing room and the hostess received her guests in a gown of powder blue georgette. Some of the players .were: Mesdames Harold Cotter, D. J. Goodwin, David Singer, A. R. Ryder, T. Mitchell. Clinton Jones and J. W. Hall.
Mrs W. Reynolds, junr., hostessed a very enjoyable “gold gift” evening on Thursday for Miss Alwyn Mark-wick. Bowls of gold zinnias, dahlias and marigolds were attractively arranged in the drawing room, and the hostess received her guests wearing navy and white sheer. Some of those present were Mesdames W. A. Hewitt, L. T. Piekmere, G. Taino, E. Wood, R. McKenzie, C. Fitzgibbons, S. A. Boreham, and Misses M. Bowmar, Betty Boult, Joan Archibald and E. Brooks.
The comings and goings this week arc very scarce, due most likely to the coming attractions during the next week or so.
Mrs D. J. Goodwin left last Friday for a few days at Wairakei'and another traveller south was Mrs David Singer.
. -Mrs Jack .Hewin, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs A. J. McKay, left last Sunday for her home in Dargavillo. '
Mrs A. Howlands was hostess at a jolly man jengg party on Tuesday afternoon. Those, shuffling the tiles were Mesdames W. T. Surman, E. B. Glanville, L, G. Miller,. L. A. Johnson, J. Morton, D. J. Goodwin and E. G. Gumming.
