Cahn’s Team Begins Last Match
[Special to "Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. In typical summer weather, Sir Julien Cahn’s cricket team began the last match of its New Zealand tour at Eden Park this morning, when it met the Auckland representatives, both teams playing 12 a-side, the arrange* ment being to field 11 only. Both captains were anxious to win
the' toss, and get first lease of a firm, 'true wicket, but the luck was with the Visiting captain. It was a compliment to the steadi-
ness of the Auckland attack that- one
. hour’s play had realised only 41 runs. ' Then came sparkle into Dempster’s play, and. there was applause for 'a beautiful drive off Matheson, which flashed straight to the fence. It was .the. second boundary shot of the match.
Dempster was the more enterprising of the batsmen, and began to leap out confidently to get Vivian on the half-
,„ v .ypjley. . Postles was persevering with his pace attack, and Cowie was brought back in place of Matheson. With the score at 63, Burke, the prafton slow right-hand bowler, was
tried, and a deep outfield was set'. Even on the hard wicket the slow bowler turned appreciably, but Dempster showed fast footwork to get the pitch of the ball, and sent one delivery hard through the fence.
