With the erection of modern buildings, increasing business and expanding population. Kaikohe has made marked strides in the past 18 months, and the rate of progress is. if anything. accelerating. Most recent aid to the development of town and surrounding rural areas is the advent of electric power, for the supply of which the Bay of Islands Electric Power Board is now erecting lines. An Eye-Opener Under such circumstances it is only to bo expected that the demands of the area require a big influx of goods and merchandise, but a glance at Kaikohe station yards and goods shed is an “eye-opener.”

No less than six new cars were seen to be unloaded at the station a few days ago. while every morning sees the good-shed crammed with building materials, household goods, groceries and numerous other lines both for the retail trade and for general utility. From previous observations it is apparent that in the past 18 months the volume of goods coming into Kaikohe by rail has been practically doubled.
