Durability Of Car Finish
Give a man a bright thing which can be kept in its pristine condition with little effort, and as a rule he will take greater care of it than he would if boundless energy and much time had to be spent in this endeavour. That is what has happened with the modern car; it is easier to keep clean. The latest finishes, both synthetic and cellulose types, are hard and durable. Thanks to their constituents and the methods of application, plus the preparation of the panels beforehand, they are imbued with lasting qualities that withstand intense sunshine, rain and snow, to say nothing of layers of mud which may not be removed for days. Neither does the paint chip off. Body design and construction are partly responsible for this; smooth contours have eliminated the mouldings and crevices wherein the paint used to flake, and the pressed-steel, welded methods of construction removes joints around which flexing took place and caused the paint to break asunder.
One has only to look on any array of used cars of comparatively recent vintage to realise how well preserved they are after thousands of miles of hard usage; even better preservation is assured for current models.
