SYDNJEY, This Day,
The Sydney “Sun” asserts that the police in California have been asked to try to interview a man who left Auckland for America shortly before Gordon Robert McKay, the Sydney skin and hide dealer, was reported burned to death in the shack at Piha. The same paper, on March 6, stated that the Commissioner of Police for New South Wales had, on that .‘day, decided to send Detective-Sergeant Alford, of Newcastle, to Auckland “to assist in unravelling the mystery of the bones found in the ruins of .the shack at Piha.”
Detective-Sergeant Alford, “The Sun” “knows McKay well. Before leaving for New Zealand he will complete inquiries he is making in Sydney.” Three detectives are engaged on the New South Wales end of the inquiry. One is making special investigations in the northern part of the State and the others in Sydney. As far as can be ascertained, no detective from Sydney has yet arrived in Auckland.
