N.Z. Fishing Data For American Museum
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, Monday.
The American Museum of Natural History in New York is hopeful of support from the New Zealand Government in the provision of materials for the New Zealand Hall, which is to be prepared to demonstrate every phase of the Dominion development. Dr. W. K. Gregory, the chief scientist attached to the Lerner Expedition, which has completed its work in tire Dominion and will sail tomorrow for Australia, stated today that they were not taking away from the country such exhibits.
“We have had many offers from private people, who have invited us to purchase curios and material relating to early Maori life in New Zealand, but we have turned all these offers down,” said Dr. Gregory. “Our mission here was not to acquire museum specimens. We came to study fish and fishing, and to secure data for the New Zealand Hall. The museum has already a number of specimens, and we are hopeful of Government co-operation to assist us in making the display worthy of this fine country.” .
