Hospital Board Pays £SO To Ex-Nurse
Further discussion tool: place at the Whangarei Hospital Board meeting today concerning an ex-nurse who had been incapacitated for many years on account of tuberculosis, which, she contended, was contracted while nursing in the Whangarei Hospital. It was stated in a letter from the Director-General of Health that the
nurse was now in receipt of an invalidity pension. “We are clearly not entitled to pay anything for the period before she received the pension,” commented the chairman, Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay. £SO To Be Paid. “I would suggest that we pay £SO as a sympathetic gesture, although not to be taken as admitting legal obligation,” said Mr A. Clarke. “The amount is very small, considering she has been ill for eight or nine years,” commented Mr F. Elliott.
The board decided to pay the nurse £SO.
