Neighbour Refused Road Access
j Steps are to be taken by xhc Bay jof Islands County Council to overi ride an Opua farmer’s refusal to grant | a neighbouring settler road access j through his property. "Take notice that I do not recognise the authority given to open the road or right-of-way through my property known as Rigden Road, and that I am closing same. The old survey and legal road will in future have' to be used."
Tliis was the text of a letter received by the council on Thursday from Mr Thomas Clince. Opua. Mr Clince was a member of a deputation which waited on the council recently in connection with-improved road access.
The old road formerly serving the property of the other settler is now impassable and at best is a longer and mud; more difficult route,
This settlor has no frontage to the new road, but could secure access through Mr Clince’s property for the distance of a chain.
The council is proceeding with the question, despite Mr Clince’s ultimatum, and the engineer, Mr S. B. Clifford, is to investigate the position.
