Before production on “Mr Wong, Detective,” now playing to New Zealand audiences, got underway at the Monogram Studios, in Hollywood, Boris Karloff had to undergo three weeks of tutelage under Lee Tong Foo, Los Angeles Chinese, in learning a few- necessary words of Chinese.
