Boris Karloff In New Role
Before production on “Mr Wong, Detective,” now playing to New Zealand audiences, got underway at the Monogram Studios, in Hollywood, Boris Karloff had to undergo three weeks of tutelage under Lee Tong Foo, Los Angeles Chinese, in learning a few- necessary words of Chinese.
More than four hours a day was required for Karloff to really perfect the several phrases. It is reputed that the Chinese language is one of the most difficult to learn, often taking years for a beginner to be able to speak the tongue. I i '
