Values Firm At Westfield

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Westfield fat stock sale today, Messrs Alfred Bucklond and Sons report that they penned fat cattle to the number of 206 head, comprising 72 steers, and 134 cows and heifers, as against 507 head last week.

Bidding was steady, and values were firm on last week's quotations.

A small yarding of cows and heifers showed no improvement on last week's sale. Quotations:

Extra choice ox sold to 36/ per 100 lb; choice and prime ox, 33/ to 35/; ordinary and plain, 28/ to 32/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 27/ to 30/; ordinary cow beef, 19/ to 22/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £l4 to £l6 10/; heavy prime steers, £l2 10/ to £l3; lighter prime steers, £ll 5/ to £l2; light prime steers, £lO 10/ to £11; small and unfinished steers, £6 15/ t„> £9 5/; extra heavy prime young cows (and heifers, £5 to £lO 15/: heavy prime cows and heifers, £6 15/ to £8; lighter prime cows and heifers, £5 10/ to £6 10/; other killable cows, £4 to £4 15/.

Miss Hammond, a member of the teaching staff of Kaitaia District High School, left on Tuesday morning for Waipawa, Hawke’s Bay. Mr and Mrs D. Archibald, of Kaitaia, are making a tour of the North Island, and will be away for about a month.
