The Premier of New South Wales, Mr B. S. Stevens, yesterday equalled the record of the late Mr. W. A. Holmafi by being Premier for six years, nine months and 15 days, and to-mor-row he will have broken the record. Political observers consider Mr Stevens will have entered federal politics by the end of the year, if not sooner. * • • • The Soviet Government has appropriated a sum of £27,000 for the relief of Spanish refugees. * i> • a It is reported that the New Zealand Government representatives have booked 130 building tradesmen, to sail by March 13. Union officials estimate that by the week-end, when the New Zealand Government representatives leave for Melbourne and Adelaide, the number will have been increased to 300. * % * The first fruits of the scheme for the repatriation of Italians from abroad was the return of 1400 Italians from France, who were warmly greeted at j stations en route, says the Milan correspondent of “The Times.” The local authorities paid their hotel accommodation, and provided the children with toys and the adults with amusements. i T * • •
King George V’s coffin was, without ceremony, transferred from the Royal tomb at Windsor Castle to the sarcophagus designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, in St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. He is the first monarch to be buried in the Nave.
