“It’s An 11l Wind”
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. This Day. Belay in the issue of a large number of income-tax demands this year has resulted in a postponement of nearly a month in the date on which the tax must be paid by about ten per cent, of the total number of taxpayers in New Zealand.
It is thought that over 11,000 individuals and companies are affected.
■ “Some thousands of demands have been sent out late this year, owing to delays which were unavoidable,” said an official of the Taxation Department in Wellington, ‘ interviewed by telephone this morning. “Many of these demands were posted yesterday, and others are going out to-day. Tlie last will probably be despatched by the end of the week. In explanation of the delay, it was stated that the offices of the department were removed to new quarters around Christmas, and this had caused an interruption of from two to three weeks in normal departmental activities.
Although the staff had been busily engaged ever since, it had been impossible to overtake this delay. The position which had arisen was, therefore, quite exceptional.
