Republicans Shoot Surrenderors
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, February 28.
Gangs of workers are removing the debris due to the Nationalist bombings: and the Republicans’ dynamiting of buildings during the retreat from Gerona and Figueras, says the correspondent of “The Times” at Perpignan. 1
The recognition of General Franco enables France to restore to Spain the prisoners who were carried along in the retreat into France.
The Republicans shot 42 at Port de Molins and 48 at El Collell, but others
escaped. The unidentified bishop, whose body, with those of 41 others, was found in a gully, was the Bishop who was captured when Colonel Ray Harcourt, commander at Teruel, surrendered to the Republicans.
The body of the bishop, and that of Colonel Harcourt, who was also among those shot, were both burned, but were identifiable.
