TO BE RETIRED. Parquet, who ran a close third in the Wanganui Cup, will be retired to the stud at the end of this season. lIIS LAST RACE? It is rumoured that Indianapolis has run his last race, and that he will go to the stud next season. SUCCESS IN INDIA. Advice has been received from the Maharajah of Idar, for whom Mr A. D. Potter, of Auckland, purchased Gay Talkie, that the horse won the Byculla Cup, lv miles, at Bombay recently. REHANDICAPPED. Super Jack, winner of the Kaikoura Trotting Cup, has been penalised 12 yards for the Wainui Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting on Thursday. Ho is now 12 yards behind.

HAWERA CUP NEXT. Uenuku is to have his next race in the Hawera Trotting Cup. He is on a 4.36 line, and should have good prospects. in spite of his recent failures at two miles. LOST FORM, Brunhild, with the assistance of the apprentice allowance, was right down to the minimum weight at Woodville, but she was unable to run into the money. For a filly that at three years ran second in the Stewards’ Handicap and won the Oaks, to say nothing of her good two-year-old form, she is a rank disappointment. A FILLY OF CLASS. Varimond, who has now won three juvenile races, has made substantial improvement lately. Early in the season she showed such promise that much was expected of her, but, after a race or two, it was realised that she was going to take time to mature. This was given her, and Mr Maurice Miller now seems to have the makings of a filly of class, and one which should develop still further next season.

NOT DECIDED YET. An Easter programme for Beaulivre has not been announced, but his owner. Mr W. Higgins. has the choice of Auckland and Christchurch. Beau- ! Hvre is engaged in the Champagne j Stakes at Auckland, and in the CharnI pagne Stakes and the Challenge Stakes j at Riecarton. Mr Higgins has anothei i Beau Pore youngster in Bel Oiscau. l at present trained at Randwick. and there is a possibility that Bel Oisoau ' might bo brought back for the Chamj pagne Stakes at Auckland, and that Beaulivre might go to Riecarton.

Wellington T.C. Acceptances

,\Fer Press Association. Copyright. 1 WELLINGTON. This Day. i Acceptances for the Wellington Trotting Club’s autumn meeting, to be held on March 2 and 4. have been doI clarcd as follows: — | RAILWAY HANDICAP.

ANOTHER TRIP SOUTHTangled, who is trained at Awapuni, was taken south last Easter to contest the steeplechase events at the Riverton meeting. It is expected to carry out the same programme this Easter. CATALOGUE RECOVERED. Catalogue has recovered from the injuries he received before the Wellington Cup meeting, and he is working again at Awapuni. All going well, he will be given a chance to win his second Melbourne Cup.

NEW QUARTERS, While she has been placed on several occasions since she last won a race, Little Rota's form has not been attractive for some time, and her good performances have been widely spaced. After the New Brighton meeting, she was leased to A. Holmes. JOE LOUIS SOLD, The Ashhurst trainer, L. D. Orange, has effected the purchase of Joe Louis, who has been in his stable for some time past. Joe Louis recently resumed racing, but the tracks are too hard for him at present,'and ho will do better when they soften. IN THE RIGHT HANDS. Lady Stella, winner of the hurdle race at Wanganui on the first day, was having her first start over hurdles. It does not look as if this will bo the only success she will achieve as a jumper, and, trained by V. H, Colello, she is in the right hands 1o develop at this game.

GAILLARD RETURNED. After doing a season of stud duty at Otahuhu. where he met with keen demand, Gaillard has been returned to Canterbury, and it is possible that he will shortly be put back in work under F. G. Holmes. This speedy son of Rey do Oro has not done a great deal of racing, but he has shown himself to be a pacer of outstanding merit. During his absence from Addington, Gaillard has thrown off all signs of his usual lameness, and he now appears to be more sound than formerly.

WELLINGTON FIELDS. Although none of the fields for the opening day of the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting next Thursday is big, excellent acceptances have boon received for this fixture. In making the principal race of the day a mile and a-half event for trotters, the club has gone away from the usual policy adopted in framing programmes, and the innovation should prove a success. The tight limit and good stake offered have resulted in 10 first-class nnhopplod performers being entered, and the material will be on hand to provide a race worthy of the occasion, Timworthy, Franz Derby, Guy Hugo, Golden F.agle and Wahnooka, all recent winners of proved ability, being engaged. The minor events contain improvers with bright prospects, who help to make the programme a most attractive one

WHICH HALF?

STORY is going the rounds in racing circles that a leading studmaster was anxious to import an English stallion, the price being 2000 guineas. On applying for an import permit, he was informed that he would be limited to sending 1000 guineas out of the country. He replied asking which half of the horse he would import.
