Hokianga County Council Affairs
Owm2' lo the damage caused to the wharves by launches, pontoons, etc., plying for hire the Hokianga Harbour Board lias decided to issue a revised schedule of charges, to cope with le increased maintenance costs, it was reported al the recent, meeting of the Hokianga County Council.
Letters from the Hobson and Bay of Islands County Councils were received supporting the request lo be made to the Minister of Public Works that the Dargaville-Ohaeawai main highway, via Waipoua Forest, be taken over as a State Highway.
A deputation from the newlyorganised Kohukohu Chamber of Commerce, comprising Messrs W. H. Kirkpatrick (president), A. A. Potter (vice-president), T. Delugar (secretary). and D. P. Jones waited on the council to discuss matters relative to the forthcoming visit of the Minister of Public Works.
Fclowing complaints regarding nuisances at the Waima School, the Health Inspector reported that additions had been made lo the school and a septic lank installation was in course of construction. An inspection had boon made of the site for the new school at Mitimiti with a view to assuring that there would be an efficient drainage disposal. etc. Embodied in the inspector's report was a recommendation to the council dealing with the necessity of reserving a site for a rubbish dump near the Broadwood Settlement. At present old tins, decayed vegetable matter and other refuse was being dumped on the roadside providing an excellent breeding ground for flies and rats, which not only constituted a public nuisance but was definitely a menace to the health of the community.
