Great Dane Puppy Acquired By Whangarei Fancier
A seven-weeks-old Great Dane bitch has been acquired by Mr A, W. B. Griffiths, of Whangarei, The chief breeding of the animal is from the Ouborough Kennels, in England. Mr Griffiths purchased the pup from an Auckland kennel.
He has not yet decided whether or not he will use the animal for breeding, but later it may be crossed with an imported dog from England. Interest in the Great Dane is growing in New Zealand, and at the Auckland Show half a dozen of these dogs were exhibited. Continental Origin. The Great Dane grows to almost the size of a small pony, and in intelligence is comparable to the Alsatian. It originated on the Continent and for many years was popular in England as a carriage dog. Added to the 'ease with which it can bo trained, the Great Dane, despite its Size, has a very kind nature and even temper. At the Auckland Show, Mr Griffiths said, small children were seen handing Great Danes that in some cases wbre bigger than themselves. The Great Dane is not new to Northland, although there are comparatively few of them kept here now.
