Men’s Club Members Meet In Friendship

The already strong bonds of friendship between the Whangarei and Dargaville Clubs were further cemented on Saturday when the annual competitions in bowls, bridge and billiards were held. In 1915 the late Messrs A. H. Crane, Whangarei, and G. N. Hayes. Darga- % ville, presented a shield for annual competition in these directions, with the object of promoting good fellowship between the two institutions. Last year the fixture was held at Dargaville. and as its location was

stipulated by the shield donors asbeing alternately at each of the two centres, play on Saturday for this year’s competition took place at Whangarei. As a result Whangarei succeeded in relieving Dargaville. the holders, of the trophy, the home teams being successful in bridge and billiards, although Dargaville took the honours in the bowling, which was held in perfect weather on the Whangarei Bowling Club's green. Both visitors and hosts thoroughlyenjoyed the day and the evening, and the proceedings ended on a happy note of friendship which left no doubt that the donors’ wishes had been more than fulfilled.
