Albertland Bobby Calf Pool
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WELLSFORD, This Day.
The first annual report and balancesheet of the Albertland Bobby Calf Pool, presented by the chairman, shows that the season’s operations compare very favourably with other pools, even those operating in lessscattered districts. The payment exceeded that of non-pool areas, where the net payment did not exceed 6/-. One pleasing aspect was that the calves rejected were only .54 per cent, of the total, while outside of pool areas the percentage of rejects went as high as 8 per cent. The number of calves handled was 6297, including 46 vealers and 15 local sales. The average weight per calf was 65.151 lbs. at farm gate, and the average net price at farm gate 6/11.4. The number of suppliers was 353. Owing to the scattered nature of the area operated over, the cartage per calf came to 1/6.07, while all costs to free-on-rail Wellsford totalled 1/9.81.
