Seven Horses Fall in Sensational Accident At Te Rapa Races

[Special to “Northern Advocate”l AUCKLAND, This Day. QNE OF THE MOST SENSATIONAL RACING ACCIDENTS IN THE

AUCKLAND PROVINCE FOR MANY YEARS OCCURRED DURING THE RUNNING OF THE FRANKTON HURDLES AT TE RAPA THIS AFTERNOON.

Fifteen horses went to the post, and seven of them came to grief at the first fence, while Forest Lake blundered and lost his rider at the second hurdle.

Seven Seas led to the first fence, where he toppled over, and Star Artist fell over him, bringing down Hopalong, Rozel, Donegal, Cynical Smile and Aramis.

Cynical Smile fractured a leg and was destroyed

P. Ferguson, rider of Seven Seas, suffered a broken leg, and P. Brady, rider of Star Artist, received abrasions to his shoulder. Both were sent to hospital. •

J. Winder, who rode Cynical Smile, suffered leg bruises; H. Turvey, on Forest Lake, a sprained hand; and J. Mcßae, on Hopalong, abrasions.
