Leaves Hospital; Meets Violent Death

[Special to ''Northern Advocate ”] HASTINGS, This Day. Released from the Pukeora sanitorium, Waipukurau, yesterc.«y morning a man was killed shortly after midday when he was run over by the Palmerston North- Napier express just as it was leaving Hastings. The victim was Mr Hugh McHugh, middle aged, of Ngaio, Wellington.

I A few minutes before the accident ' Mr McHugh was seen standing between the express and a mixed goods train ; which was on a siding. I The first intimation that something j was amiss was when the fireman of the express saw a man’s body protrud- ! ing from the understructure of a car- - riage.

In order to extricate the body from between the front bogey wheels and the next set of wheels it was necessary to jack up the carriage. The body showed comparatively little signs of injury.
