Dargaville Firemen Kept Busy

Elargaville firemen have turned out si* tihies in eight days.

Wednesday evening of last week saw' the commencement of the epidemic when a garage and car owned by Mr T. O’Connor, Mangawhare, were completely destroyed. Second outbreak was in the early hours of Sunday morning when the McKay 'Electrical Company’s Workroom caught alight, ’ £SOO worth of damage resulting. Hay Burns Twice.

Mr' P. Johnson’s property at Duck Creek was the scene for the next alarm, this taking place on Wednesday. Hay was found to be alight in this Instance.

On Thursday at midday a call was received to Tirarau Street, where scrub was burning. The fifth call was again to Mr Johnson’s property, where the same hay had again become lighted. Final episode in the firemen’s busy week was Thursday night’s outbreak in a cowshed at Duck Creek. A quantity of hay in the shed was almost completely destroyed, as was the shed itself. Only the shell of the building remains, as the flames had too strong a hold when the brigade arrived.

MIDDLE-AGED man, Mr John Walsh, believed to be a resident of Ohakune, died in the Wanganui Hospital last night after having been rescued from the river below the Dublin Street bridge.
