Flay On has freshened up nicely since the New Year, when he looked a bit jaded after his hard race in the Manawatu Cup, and his 8.4 in the Pahiatua Cup to-morrow will make him a popular pick with Rangitikei punters. J. MUNRO JOINS TRAINERS. J. Munro, formerly one of the* best jockeys in Australia, has joined the ranks of Sydney trainers. He has been granted a No. 2 license by the Australian Jockey Club, which permits him to train on courses other than Randwick. FOUR WINS TO L. J. ELLIS. L. J. Ellis, with four wins, was the most successful jockey at the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting. G. R. Tattersall and C. T. Wilson each rode three winners, and H. N. Wiggins was successful on two occasions. FOR THE SOUTH. Nervies Last will race at the Wellington meeting next week, after which ! he will go into J. Bryce’s stable at j Christchurch. Since his arrival from = Australia in 1935, Nervie’s Last has been a good stake-earner, and has won j at all distances. j j _ • j IN WINNING FORM. Lucullus Lad registered his best performance this season when he accounted for the opposition in the Ashhurst Cup field, and the manner Of his victory stamps him as one likely to be prominent in the Pahiatua Cup to-morrow. He is owned by Mr W. Devon, who also races the consistent Gay Chou. . . j PROGRESS OF ROYAL CHIEF. Royal Chief has recovered from the bruised heel that was troubling him last week, and his preparation at Riccarton is being continued. The James Hazlett Gold Cup at Dunedin next month is likely to be the starting-oil point for Royal Chief. He may be nominated for the Dunedin Cup, although It is by no means certain that he will start in it.

TRENTHAM PRIZE-MONEY. 1 Defaulter, who won £846 and a gold cup valued at £l5O, placed Mr H. D. Greenwood at the head of the list of j winning owners who participated in ' the prize-money at the Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting. Mr .W. Higgins, who was represented by ’ Beaulivre and Sigurd, won £775, and T. H. Coltman, who races Haughty Winner, was next with £770.

PROMISING YOUNGSTER. Mr A. McGovern has a rising two-year-old by Beau Pere from The Begum, and therefore half-brother to High Caste, Stretto and Mazir, and fully related to Avakur. This young colt shows a great deal of promise. Like Arvakur, he is brown in colour. It is intended to put him into training at Ellerslie almost immediately.
