Launching Moorings To Be Deepened

The removal of silt from anchorages J at all launch yacht jetties in the j Town Wharf Basin would soon have to I be faced, said Mr. E. L. Whimp this morning. He was speaking at a meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board. It would be a big undertaking, said the chairman, Mr. J. A. Finlayson. Launch-Owner Complains. The matter was raised when a letter was received from Mr. M. R. Carter, a launch mooring licensee, asking if the board would deepen his berth. For one and a-half hours each side of low tide, the berth was unusable, the letter stated, “All jetties are in much the same position,” remarked Mr. H. E. Hewlett. Men Available. Men could be placed on the work of dtedgihg the moorings and stop-bank-ing above Victoria Bridge as soon as present work at Port Whangarei was completed, said the engineer, Mr. W. M. Fraser. This would make a valuable foreshore reclamation on the northwestern side of the bridge, he said. The men were unemployed, and the board would have to find more work for them. ; ; On the motion of Mr. Hewlett the engineer was instructed to prepare for the work as suggested.
