Albatross Taken Under Mayor’s Wing
l Special to “Northern j Advociate*’l ¥ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
The albatross, which formerly lived at Hororata, but which is now residing at Akaroa, has not left for the open sea, as was reported. The bird was discovered taking a stroll up a hill. The . albatross was put in a pen, which is at the mouth of a six-foot cuhtert leading to a creek and running into .the sea, and at high tide the pen is flooded with sea water.
Mr F. R. E. Davis, Mayor of Akaroa, has, in a manner of speaking, taken the albatross under his wing, and many visitors have been to see it. -It is in excellent health and has been eating hearitly of fish and bread. Some people who have seen the bird lately have expressed the opinion that it will not be able to fly again, as it is feared that the wing, although not broken, may be dislocated. The injury occurred when an unsuccessful attempt was made to leave Hororata and the bird, came down in a north-west wind and hit a clothes’ line.
