NORRIS, KELLY AND COOTE MATCH WINNERS

Old Boys avenged their first round defeat by Services. They took advantage of the fast outfield and Services’ fieldsmen were kept scouting near the boundary; Kelly, Code and Watson collected over a score of boundaries and eight bowlers received the same cavalier treatment. The bowlers at no time took command and Services were left with an impossible task. With 14 overs, seven maidens and eight wickets for 16, Norris was unplayable, and Services would have been content to share the points. When six minutes to play found Services with throe wickets in hand, the draw seemed a certainty. However, Norris thought otherwise, and four balls were sufficient to clean up the tail. Kelly and Coote have proved themselves among the best in Whangarei and are hard men to shift once they have settled down.
