Britain’s Record Low Infantile Mortality Rate

(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 23. Provisional estimates of the birth, death and infantile mortality rates in' 1938, were announced in a speech at Norwich, by the Minister of Health, Mr Walter Elliot. He said the infantile mortality rate was down to three per 1000 live births, constituting a new low record. It was five below the rate in 1937 and four below the previous low rate in 1935. The birth rate in 1938 was higher than in 1937 at 15.1 live births per 1000. The death rate in 1938, with the exception of 1930, was the lowest on j record, 11.6,
