Ciano Knits Balkan Bloc Closer to Rome-Berlin Axis

'J'HE FAB REACHING IMPORTANCE OF COUNT CIANO’S VISIT TO BELGRADE IS REVEALED BY THE DISCLOSURE THAT NEGOTIATIONS ARE PROCEEDING FOR AN ANGLO-YUGOSLAV MILITARY ALLIANCE. Italy has granted Yugoslavia 500,000.000 lire credit to enable her to purchase Italian armaments. Plans are under way to build a factory at Belgrade to produce tanks, aeroplane motors and trucks. Count Ciano has effected a rapprochement between Hungary and Rumania, and has reconciled Yugoslavia and Rumania. His trip not only knits the Balkan bloc closer to the Berlin-Rome axis, but wipes out the last vestiges of French influence in the Balkans. Demands Will be Announced on January 30 (Received 2 p.m.) ROME, January 23. JJARSHAL BALBOA’S “IL COURRIERE PADANO” DECLARES THAT HERR HITLER AND COUNT CIANO WILL MAKE FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENTS OF THE GERMAN AND ITALIAN CLAIMS ON JANUARY 30. The statement dannot be confirmed, but has caused a sensation in diplomjtic circles. / Count Ciano is reported to be going to Berlin on January 30 to participate in the Nazi’s sixth anniversary ceremonies, at which Herr Hitler, in his speech to the Reichstag will bring up the question of colonies.
