Spotlight on .... Mr. Douglas Hyde
Dr. Dougulas Hyde, who, with Mr De Valera, is guarded night and day, according to a cable message today. \ He is a Gaelic scholar, poet, and playwright, and was chosen at Eire’s first President. Dr. Hyde, who was the selected of all parties in the Dait, is fine of the first Protestants ever to be chosen for high office in Eire. He fills a newly-created *posit under the terms of Mr De Valera’s recent-ly-framed constitution. A distinguished * scholar, Dr. Hyde obtained his Doctorate of Literature with honours at both the University of Wales and at Trinity College, Dublin. . He served on a Royal Commission inquiring into Irish University education in 1906, and from 1909 to 1919 was a member of the Senate. He was appointed Senator in the Government of the Irish Free. State in 1925. In 1909 he received the Freedom of the city of Limerick.
