At night quite late friend Kaka hears a peculiar sound. “Good gracious me!” he grumbles, “who is that sneaking round?” He gets his gun, throws wide his door and thunders, “Who is that?” He is amazed and overjoyed when in walks Michael Cat.
Poor Michael is so tired and sore that Mr Kaka says “Why did you walk so far at once? It takes most people days!” Most tenderly he bathes Mike's feet; then bark of rata trees He also carefully applies, till Mike feels more at ease.
“And now,” he says, “a cooling drink. What can I get for you? I have some splendid berry wine, but don’t think that will do. Oh, yes, I know, the vex*y thing when one is tired and sore.” —He fetches Mike a drink of milk from his milk tree next door.
And then he makes a bed for Mike of soft, sweet-scented fern, And tucks Mike in. With gratitude towards him Mike does turn. “Goodnight, dear Kaka," Michael says, “I'd tramp those miles again For such a welcome as r?o had —the trip was wottb the pain.”
