Artist Charmed By Coastal Scenery
j Painting under the shade of a beach I umbrella or tramping, heavily-laden with a rucsack, a young New Zealand artist, Mr Basil Honor, has created much interest among Northlanders holi' j daying at the seaside, i For a fortnight he painted views of I the Bay of Islands, which however, he I found to be a little monotonous owing I ' ” largely to the static weather cbnditions. Calling at Whangarei Heads for a couple of days, he has been charmed with the unspoiled harbour coastal scenery, that he has stolen time and intends to remain there until he has to leave for an appointment with the well-known painter, Mr Nugent Wells, at Coromandel next week. Unspoilt Lovliness. Mr Honor is particularly well-known in the South Island, having painted extensively there for 10 years. Now
resident in Wellington, he is accompanied on his present camping expedi • tion by his wife and daughter.
Met by a “Northern Advocate” representative at Ocean Beach, Whangarei Heads, Mr Honor referred eulogistically to the "‘paintability” of the neighbourhood. “Kaikoura and other beautiful panoramas beloved by artists have been ruined by railway cuttings, Public Works Department readings, etc,” he said, “but this place,” sweeping an arm to indicate lonely sandhills and turreted rocks, “look as though it will escape that kind of thing.”
