England Beats S.A. By An Innings

(Received 1.30 p.m.) DURBAN, January 23. After two drawn games, England won the third cricket test against South Africa by the decisive margin of an innings and 13 runs. Scheduled for four days, the match was all over in three. Tlie South African batsmen, fn their follow on, continued after tea in a poor light, apparently under instructions not to appeal against it'. The position when play was resumed after the week-end was that South Africa had lost one wicket for 73, having been sent in to bat again on Saturday following their dismissal for 103 in reply to England’s 469 for four wickets declared. Rowan Stonewalls. The not out batsmen were Mitchell (53) and Rowan (7), and they eventually increased their tallies to 109 and 67. Mitchell batted for ISO minutes without giving a chance, and he hit 14 fours; , Rowan played on the defensive for 208 minutes, and did not reach the boundary on a single occasion. The bowlers were in command after tea, and Viljoen was the only player to offer any real opposition. The fourth, test starts at Johannesburg on February 18; the fifth at Durban again, on March 3.
