N.Z. Tourists Being Limited To Set Sunk
AUCKLAND. Tiffs Day,
There is apparently sores', difference of opinion among banking men as to the working of the Government restriction on the remittance of moneys overseas. 1 The majority of bankers agree that the regulations are working quite smoothly and not causing any very serious inconvenience, but others anticipate that it will restrict tourist traffic from the Dominion by hampering the more wealthy type of traveller. The general tendency to level all applications to one basis of expenditure was commented on by several other bankers, and the opinion was expressed that the Reserve Bank had a fixed standard for overseas travel to which all applications were made to conform. A representative of a travel agency mentioned the case of a man who had applied for £ISOO for a 12 months’ tour, and had been restricted to about £4OO, but it was not clear that this was a final credit for the whole period.
It is reported that some businessmen, anticipating such restrictions, placed credits abroad before the control scheme came into force, but particulars of these are required to be
declared when making application for a permit ! ! ' j
