A breakdown of the German economic system, resulting from the removal of Dr. Schacht from the presidency of the Reichbank, is anticipated by Lord Strabolgi, who fears the Nazi Government will then plunge Germany into international strife. “It is a very important event in Christchurch.” said Lord Strabolgi, speaking of Dr. Schacht’s dismissal. “Generally recognised as one of the leading bankers in the world, he is a man of very sound knowledge and has managed to keep the crazy economic structure of Germany intact so far. “His going means that the extremists in power since the invasion oi Austria are now in power economically.
“1 think it is the beginning of the end.”
