Northland Runner’s Success In South
A successful season on the Southland sports circuit has been concluded by Roy King, M.ahgawai, well known in Whangarei district professional circles. His latest honours were secured at the second annual games of the Caledonian Society of Invercargill last Saturday. The “Southland Times” credits King with the outstanding running performances of the day. “From scratch, he ran second in the mile and third in the half-mile.” the paper states. Among- Southland’s Best. ‘To get into these places he had to run round big fields and put up fast times. For the half-mile he was timed at Imin. Bscc., and for the mile he recorded 4min. 27sec. They were among the best performances ever seen in Southland, and gained additional merit from the fact that the track was very heavy.” The Invercargill Caledonian games are regarded as one of the biggest events of the kind in Now Zealand.
