Low Insurances For Local Body Members

“They don’t appear to set a very high value on board members,” remarked the chairman of the Whangarei Hospital Board, Mr J. A. S. MacKey at yesterday’s meeting in reference to a letter from an insurance company. For an annual premium of 18/6, the company offered to insure members for the following benefits: £IOOO in the event of death by accident; £IOOO in the event of permanent total disablement; £SOO for permanent partial disablement, and £6 per week for temporary total disablement. Proposals could be accepted in the case of members under 65 years of age. “In the case of the borough council the age limit is 60 years,” remarked a member. “It could be taken for granted that the old age pension would be available after that,” said Mr A. J. McKay. The board decided to take no action in the matter.
