NORTHLAND TRIBE

“Advocate” Office, f Water St.. Whangarei, : * Tuesday, January 10, 1939. Dear Northlanders— ' Something tells me that Kupe and correspondence haven’t) 1 been altogether forgotten in New Year’s resolution for 1939, Certainly my mailbag lias contained some long and interesting letters. There’s the one # from Kitty Aden, telling me about the search for. a comfortable spot outdoors; there’s another from Edith Parata saying how she spent the Christmas and the fun she had shopping in Whangarei, and perhaps best of all giving the good news that she had passed' her examination; and a third letter came from Idina Connolly, who is finding quite an adventure in working during the holidays to earn entry to a secondary school In Auckland. And. these arc hut three of the letters from ll.Q.’s mailbag. There were many more bringing good wishes from loyal warriors and maidens* and not a few contributions. There were some original stories lhat I was very pleased to see. With stories, you know. It’s not necessary to try to write something clever. If you like school stories then write school stories, and to begin with model them on tales you have read. I don’t mean you should copy a story and call it your own, but simply use one of your favourite stories as a guide in writing a tale of your own. If you all did this we’d have a fine collection of stories—Guide, school, adventure—all those that hoys and girls like best. Try your hand while you’ve, plenty of time to spare. You’ll get lots of fun.

Rangatira, Northland Tribe.
