Pukekohe increased its lead in the Country Week cricket tournament for sub-associations in the Auckland province by an outright win against Selwyn-Oraka at the Domain yesterday. Points gained to date by the teams are as follows: Pukekohe 20. Hamilton 12, Eodney 4, Selwyn-Oraka 0. 1 An interesting contest took place between Hamilton and Rodney, the latter failing in its effort to overtake the opposing team’s score of 193 by making 162, so that Hamilton was victorious by 31 runs. 1 Of the Rodney batsmen, the best performer was Campbell, who compiled 42 runs. Andrews, Mainland and Shepherd each contributed 20. The most effective Rodney bowlers were K. Pukekohe was much too strong for Selwyn-Oraka, and won by an innings and 106 runs. Pukekohe made 200 in its first innings, while Selwyn-Oraka made only 27 in its first innings and 87 in its second. Boyce dismissed four batsmen for ten..-.runs in Selwyn-Oraka’s first innings. TODAY'S PLAY The second matches of the second round in the Hellaby Shield series of Country Week cricket games were played on the Domain today. At lunch time the leading team, Pukekohe, disposed of a reinforced Rodney team for I'o3. Once again the spin bowling of W. Johnson was the chief factor in Pukekohe’s success, though Baillie performed a particularly useful serVice in getting Vipond early in the innings. Hamilton scored steadily in their game against Selwyn-Oraka, to put on a tally of 158 for eight wickets before the luncheon adjournment.
