Marohemo Christmas Tree

i The Marohemo Hall echoed with the j happy noise of the many children and j large crowd of interested friends who i attended the Children’s Christmas ; Tree hold by the Women’s Institute cn Tuesday evening. The hall was j gaiiy festooned with streamers, and the centre of much attraction was the i large, gaily-decked Christmas Tree, ; which was heavily laden with presents for all the children. The programme commenced with ‘dancing and continued with items by the children. Lorna Trewin, Terry and Pat Hanna, Basil Arnald and Margaret Andersen delighted the audience with recitations. Heather Jackman accompanied by Mrs E. W. H, Jackman, sang two popular airs. Little Judith Fraser, in Highland costume, rendered two Highland dances which proved very popular indeed. The children then danced a Monte Carlo, the winners being Lorna and Clare Trewin. Another Monte Carlo

i later in the evening was won by ! Master Fraser and Jean King. I Great excitement prevailed when Santa Claus arrived to distribute bags of nuts and sweets. When Santa Claus had safely delivered the presents ho departed amid much cheering from the children. A dainty supper was served, as were also ice creams. Presentations of beautiful floral bouquets, were made to Mrs Petrie, treasurer, Miss Brooks, secretary and Miss Fergus, president. A pleasing incident in the evening was the presentation of a mirror to Miss Ethel Cawte, who fs to be married shortly and will be leaving to live at Invercargill. In making the presentation Miss Fergus extended the good wishes of Marohemo Women’s Institute. Miss Cawte suitably responded and extended an invitation to friends to visit her at her future home. The dancing continued until a late hour when Auld Lang Syne brought the evening to a close.
