Sensational Fire At The Invalidies
(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, December 23. Almost the entire Paris fire brigades were called to subdue a fire at the historic Invalides. the building containing Napoleon’s .tomb. Five fire engines reached the scene in three minutes. Taxi-drivers gave the alarm, but frozen pipes handicapped the firemen’s initial efforts. The damage is believed considerable, but is mostly confined to the upper floor. Although the facade is blackened, and portion of the gilded roof and windows was destroyed, the building is less badly damaged than was feared. No archives of importance were lost.
