Business Quiet On ’Change
[Special to “Northern Aduocafci'J AUCKLAND, This Day.
Australian shares were generally firm on last week’s improvement' at the first call this morning, but New Ze,alands lacked support. Business was quiet. Colonial Sugars confirmed Saturday’s easing tendency with a reported sale at £4B, but were quoted firmer from £47/17/6 to £49/5/-. The other market leaders had a strong inquiry, and in. the case of G. J. Coles, sellers moved up to £4/4/-, with buyers unchanged 1/6 lower.
Among local issues, Taranaki Oils dropped back to’ 10/3, and best buyers for New Zealand Breweries stopped at £l/16/-, sellers holding off. Wilsons Cements, however, looked a shade stronger, a buyer .at 15/8 failing to attract an offer from holders. There was a wider inquiry for Government stocks round last wpek’s low levels, but the only feature of the section was a sale of rural bonds 7/6 lower than ,at the last transaction early in the month. Quotations showed little change in the banking and insurance sections. Sales completed at the noon call today were: Tooth’s Breweries, £2/16/-; Woolworths (Sydney), £l/2/.
