Care During Holidays: Heavy Traffic Laws

"With the holiday season approaching, it is necessary to enforce the heavy traffic regulations.” remarked Mr F. Watters, main highways traffic inspector, this morning. John Murray appeared in the Police Court charged with driving his heavy goods truck on the Kamo Springs flat between Whangarei and Hikurangi at a speed in excess of 25 miles per hour. Inspector Watters stated that Murray diove at 35 miles per hour. The magistrate, Mr J. Molding, S.M., imposed a fine of £2, with 10/- costs. Licensed Loads Exceeded. For exceeding the weight his vehicle ■was licensed lo carry, Ernest Johnson was fined £l. with costs 10/-. Inspector Watters said that defendant’s load was 13 cwt overweight. The offence was detected at Hikurangi. Ernest David Taylor was charged with operating a heavy goods service in an area in which he was not licensed to operate, namely. Awakino Road, Dargaville, and also with exceeding the weight his vehicle was licensed to carry. His vehicle was overloaded to an extent of 15 cwt, said the inspector. Taylor was fined 10/- with a similar amount in court costs on the first charge, and £1 with 10/- costs on the second count.

Further Charges. Several other charges arising from brea.- hes of the traffic regulations were dealt with by Mr Morling. Arthur William Beeston pleaded guilty through Mr R. K. Trimmer to driving his car without a warrant of fitness and without a taillight. He was fined £1 on the first charge and 5/on the second, costs being 10/- each case. Leslie Fisher was fined 10/- with 10/- costs for riding a cycle without a light. » Frederick Neil Reynolds pleaded guilty, through Mr Trimmer, to driving without warrant of fitness or taillight. A fine of 15/- was inflicted on the first charge and 5/- on the second, costs being fixed at 10/- in each case. For riding a motor-cycle at Whakapara without a warrant of fitness, Holl Campbell Snell was fined £l. He was convicted and discharged for having no driver’s license.
