Cook Straits Train Ferry
[Sjiecial to “Northern Advocate ”] INVERCARGILL, This Day. A train ferry service across Cook Strait to synchronise with the completion of the South Island Main Trunk was urged by the Southland executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Saturday.
The president, Mr A. R. Johnson,
said he was sure that the recommendation would gain suppoii from the Dominion executive.
The recommendation was brought forward by the union’s grain and seed committee, on behalf of which Mr J. H. Gordon said that such a ferry could make four trips daily.
The value of oats for feed was being realised, he said. The grain could be sent from Southland to Hamilton with only one handling. Southland could .grow all the oats necessary for the North Island.
