Group Meeting At Maungatapere
A meeting of the Maunu, Kara, Poroti and Maungatapere Institutes held in the Maungatapere Hall on November 29 was presided over by the Group Convenor. Mrs Jones, of Poroti. An apology was road from the Titoki Institute.
Mrs Jones welcomed a large gathering of members and friends, calling on the federation president to speak. Included amongst the guests from Whangarei were the Mayoress, Mrs W. Jones, the federation president, Mrs J. Ross, and the Whangarei centre president, Mrs HirtzeL Each Institute helped to entertain, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. Items included a pleasing recitation by Mrs Mullincaux, an entertaining play by Mrs and Miss Attwood, and Mrs and Miss Courtney. Miss Rona Armstrong sang, while items by the Maungatapere Glee Club were enjoyed by all. PorotL provided a competition, won by Mrs J. O Shea. A parade of old-time costumes provided striking contrast to the present day apparel. The periods represented were: Mrs Croncher, 1640; Miss Dorchill, 1645; Miss O. Hayward, 1645; Mrs Mullincaux, 1742; Mrs Kokich, 1900; Miss Hawken. 1900; Miss Firilayson, 1900; Mrs Wilson. 1900; Mrs A. Jones, 1900; Mrs Stevenson, 1906; Mrs Courtney, 1908: Mrs Morrison, 1910. Mrs Finch kindly judged the decorated vases, awarding prizes to Mrs Armstrong, 1, Mrs Mooney, 2; for all one kind, and Mrs Wilson 1. and Mrs Fever 2, for mixed kinds of flowers. Afternoon lea was served by the Maungatapere members, Mrs Sloane, on behalf of the members. thanked Mrs Jones for the organising, and a successful meeting was brought to a close with the presentation of bouquets to Mrs Jones and Mrs Ross.
