Deep-Sea Fishing Trophies On Display

The centre of attraction in Russell at. present is the display of the Bay of Islands Swordfish and Mako Shark Club's trophies and souvenirs in ! Messrs Baker Bros.’ window, j Pride of place in the attractive dis- ! play is held by the new Dewar Cup, a magnificent silver trophy, presented by Messrs John Dewar and Sons, Scotland.

New Dewar Cup This cup- stands 18 inches high with a bowl measurement of nine inches. The beautifully finished handles give the cup a total Avidth of 16 inches. The six-inch deep plinth holds 10 silver shields for engraving the name of the successful angler catching the record game fish each season. A perfect replica of the cup is presented to the successful angler and with the new trophy are three replicas for the coming three seasons; 1938-39; 1939-40 and 1940-41.

For Competition Six other competitive trophies, the Carrie Fin Cup for the lady catching the record game fish each season; the Pettit cup for heaviest striped marlin; the Bartlett cup for the heaviest black marlin; the Colonial Ammunition cup for the heaviest mako shark; the Lindauer cup for competition between Whangaroa and Russell; the beautifully mounted Maori carved Kohn trophy and items of piscatorial interest make an attractive setting for the new Dewar cup.
