End Of Hora Hora School Year

The Hora Hora school grounds made a perfect setting for the .annual parents’ day which marked the official close of the school year on Thursday. Reflecting great credit on the efforts of staff and pupils, the gardens presented. their prettiest picture for many years, and, blended with the colourful frocks of the girls .and lady visitors to make a charming and animated scene. With the- chairman of the school committee. Mr B, R. Miller, in attendance, together with Mr J. G. Barclay, M.P. for Marsden, ,and Mr W. Jones, Mayor of Whangarei, a full programme was carried out on the lawn fronting the school buildings. Mr Miller congratulated the headmaster, Mr W. D. Teesdale, and his staff on the results accomplished dur- j ing the year, and also commended the ! children for their efforts. He especi- j ally thanked the teachers for the manner in which they had co-operated with the committee.

Mr Jones also congratulated the staff and pupils on their year’s work, and extended to them the compliments of the season. Mr Barclay referred to the anticipated improvements in educational administration in the district with the formation of the proposed Northland Education Board, and besought the children to forget the restrictions of school life in the enjoyment of the approaching h olid ays. During the afternoon the Whangarei Ladies’ Gardening Club’s certificates for the winners in the school’s sweet pea competitions were presented by Mr Jones, while Mr Barclay presented the school swimming certificates. Bright Programme. The items by the children wore greatly enjoyed by the parents and visitors, and included songs, folk dancing and a play, as well ns drill displays. At the conclusion of proceedings the visitors, committee and staff met at afternoon tea, while good things, including ice cream, were distributed among the children. A Christmas tree for the infant classes was held yesterday when each of the primer pupils received a present. Sweets and peanuts were distributed to the whole school.
